During my short time in Cuba, I encountered the story of La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, the island’s patron saint and a symbol of unity, protection, and survival. This legend, passed down through generations, became a lens through which to consider the ways faith and memory sustain communities amid political and material uncertainty.

This photographic series holds space for layered realities: resilience within erosion, beauty within ruin, and the enduring power of stories to tether communities to both history and hope. It does not seek to explain Cuba, but to witness the quiet strength found in the everyday.
